Content & Layout

Forms aren't just stacks of inputs. Use content blocks to give context, group related questions, or break a long form into pages.

Content Blocks

Available from the slash menu under the Content category:

BlockWhat it does
HeadingSection heading. Pick H1, H2, or H3.
TextParagraph of descriptive text. Useful for instructions, disclaimers, or context.
DividerA horizontal line. Visually splits sections without adding a page break.

Content blocks are anchored to the field above them (afterFieldId). When you reorder a field, its trailing content blocks move with it.

Why headings, not separate pages

For short forms, a heading + a divider is often a better UX than a page break. Page breaks are overhead — every "Next" click is a moment the respondent could bounce.

Page Breaks

A page break turns a single-page form into a multi-step form. Add one from the slash menu under the Layout category, or by typing /page break.

How it behaves:

  • Everything before the break is page 1; everything between the first and second break is page 2; etc.
  • A Next button appears at the bottom of every page except the last.
  • The last page shows the Submit button.
  • You can customise the next-button text per page break (e.g. "Continue", "Next step", "Almost done").
  • A progress bar appears at the top of every page if Show Progress Bar is on in Settings.

Page breaks and conditional logic

Conditional rules like "skip to page 3 if Plan = Enterprise" (action: Skip to page) jump the respondent forward. They cannot send respondents backwards, and they cannot conditionally skip a single field — use Hide field for that.

Form Identity

ElementWhere to set it
TitleClick the title in the designer header
DescriptionThe subtitle field directly below the title
IconClick the icon next to the title — pick an emoji or an icon
BrandingSettings → Show Ascend Branding toggle

The title, description, and icon are part of the published snapshot — they only update on the public form when you click Publish.

Branding & Whitelabel

By default the public form footer shows a small "Made with Ascend" link. Toggle it off in Settings → Show Ascend Branding if you want a clean look (available on all paid plans).

Submit Button

Customise the submit button text in Settings → Submit Button Text. Defaults to "Submit". Common alternatives:

  • "Send my answers"
  • "Apply now"
  • "Get my quote"
  • "Reserve my spot"

What You Can Add Between Fields

The slash menu lets you insert anywhere — between two fields, before the first field, or after the last. The order in the designer is the order on the public form.

Drag the grip handle on the left of any field/block to reorder. Drag a field above or below a content block and the content block follows naturally.
